Decision (maintainer, 2026-09-30). In an advanced installation the installer asks for one mesh node address and an entry secret, queries etcd, lists what exists ("found MariaDB, Redis and two Nginx"), and the operator selects. Only the first appliance of a mesh needs real effort.

Handbook: docs/decisions/0026-installation-by-discovery.md (handbook#26)

Amends: 0013 (the replica screen's typed address and password come from the registry; each screen still configures only its own machine; phase 1 becomes the normal advanced case), 0020 (discovery was Keel Cloud's; now on the mesh).

Review notes

  • The entry secret needs a lifetime and scope (single use or reusable; what a joining node may read or write before admission).

First tasks

  • confconsole/inithooks screen: node address plus secret, then a selection list read from etcd.
  • Depends on 0025's key layout and 0034's manifest (what a node offers).
