Decision (maintainer, 2026-09-30). The installer uses two terms only, simple installation and advanced installation, with three modes: (1) simple: everything in one LXC, no mesh, no etcd; (2) advanced, cloud simple: database primary and replica, application files in a single LXC; (3) advanced, cloud advanced: three LXC minimum, etcd quorum, directory replication. Cloud advanced assumes three distinct sites or two plus an external arbiter, and warns in one line when all three share a host. In cloud mode the primary generates the key, password and WireGuard endpoint the replica uses.
Handbook:
docs/decisions/0028-installation-modes.md(handbook#26)Amends: 0013 (Standalone/Cloud console flow folded into these modes), 0020 (three voters still required for automatic failover; cloud simple fails over by hand; the arbiter is 0020's data-less voter).
