Decision (maintainer, 2026-09-30). Mastodon is the reference appliance that validates the composition model: PostgreSQL, Redis and Nginx from the mesh; Rails and Sidekiq specific. A TurnKey Mastodon appliance exists to port.

Handbook: docs/decisions/0035-mastodon-reference-appliance.md (handbook#26)

Amends: tracker#20 (Mastodon placed by this decision), 0006 (keel-mastodon given a role).

Review notes (resolved by the maintainer, 2026-09-30)

  • Mastodon is the heaviest app (Ruby, Node, PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq, usually object storage and search). Resolved: Mastodon remains the reference; the roadmap builds it after WordPress, Odoo and Nextcloud as an order of work.

First tasks

  • Fork the TurnKey Mastodon appliance into the organisation and write its manifest draft alongside 0034's schema.
