Decision (maintainer, 2026-09-30). Object storage appliance on Garage (s3 overlay in common). Garage over MinIO: built for geo-distributed unequal links, small single binary, zones map to the etcd site label (replication factor 3 across three zones), AGPL without a separate edition. Object storage is the recommended home for media, attachments and backups; file replication shrinks to what apps insist on keeping on a filesystem. Garage nodes announce in etcd.

Amends: 0002 (duplicity's s3-endpoint-url gets its target), 0032 (fewer file-replicated paths), 0013 sovereignty (Garage ships as a Keel package).

Garage is not in Debian; ITP #1118368, being packaged (Debian archive and WNPP, 2026-09-30). Keel builds it under 0039 meanwhile, and it is a candidate to contribute to Debian via tracker#15, coordinating with the ITP owner.

First tasks

Build Garage from source as a .deb in the Keel repository, reproducibly.
