Context
Keel appliances are being rebuilt as layers: Keel Core, then Keel Web (Nginx), then applications on top (see the roadmap, #46). MediaWiki is a likely candidate after the web layer. Before anyone packages it, we want written research notes. This is research only, no code.

What to do
Post a comment on this issue that answers, with a link for each fact:

  1. Which MediaWiki version Debian 13 (trixie) ships (mediawiki package), whether it is an LTS release, and how long it is supported.
  2. Which PHP version and extensions it needs, and whether trixie's php8.4-* packages cover them.
  3. The Nginx configuration MediaWiki documents for PHP-FPM (short URLs, images/ upload directory, which paths must not be served).
  4. Database choices (MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQLite) and which one fits a small appliance.
  5. What the first-boot setup would have to ask (admin user, password, wiki name, domain) and whether php maintenance/run.php install can do it without a browser.
  6. Anything that needs a cron job or a job runner.
  7. Open questions you could not answer.

Done when
The notes are posted here, each point has a source, and the open questions are listed.
